GEDA Projects

Our projects are focused on people in East Asia, with an emphasis on underprivileged children. This is accomplished through several different programs, some of which are outlined below.

In carrying out this work, we make every attempt to utilize local resources, from building supplies to construction projects, from rice and food, to caretakers for the children, whether buying supplies or procuring medicines, with the hope that the people we serve will develop a sense of enablement rather than dependency.

Introduction to the Center of Hope

Many countries in East Asia continue to struggle with a heavy burden of impoverished children and the dismal future they face.  The orphanage model of care, while disparaged of late due to many examples of poor management, remains an important avenue of care for many children who would otherwise have no opportunity to thrive.

The Center of Hope is a residential care facility for underprivileged children, displaced by loss of parents and/or extreme socioeconomic factors.  With the permission and cooperation of the locals, the Center of Hope is built adjacent to a primary school, allowing the younger children at the Center to walk a safe, short distance to their daily classes.

Sponsors from inside and outside the country help to make possible the daily provisions of food, clothing, shelter, staffing and supplies to address the children's needs.  The GEDA Staff in Hanoi coordinate activities and operations of the Center of Hope.

Child Sponsorship Program

Children living in extreme poverty are often kept home from school after only a few years of elementary education, in order to help their family to survive.  In many such cases, parents can be encouraged to send their children back to school, by supplementing the family with some basic staples and support.  In this way, a child whose family is relatively stable can remain in the care of his or her parent(s) and still attend school.  This is the purpose of the Child Sponsorship Program.

Boy with Grandma

In Vietnam, GEDA Staff from Hanoi are able to make regular visits to encourage such children in their studies and help the parent or parents in their vital role as providers.

Emergency Relief Support

Though relief work is not the primary focus of GEDA, there are occasions when the people suffer from natural disasters such as typhoons, landslides, floods and the like. GEDA supports various relief efforts in times of need.

Thanks for your care and concern for those in need!

SLEC - Sharing Love by Educating Children

GEDA reaches out to underprivileged children to encourage them in their education, sometimes in places that do not yet allow for a permanent GEDA presence. The SLEC program is designed to begin making in-roads to very hard-to-reach people by bringing them materials and supplies.

Medical Projects

GEDA is in the early stages of developing resources and networks to bring supplemental medical care to areas and people in need. Medical staff work in conjunction with another NGO to provide clinical services at a charity clinic outside of Hanoi. Short-term teams are organized to visit areas where GEDA has established relationships in order to provide medical care to those in need.
